Battle of the three brothers at Morgan Park Raceway

MOTOR RACING: The sounds of high-octane action could be heard over Warwick as racing returned to Morgan Park Raceway at the weekend.

More than 160 racers took part in Round 4 of the CAMS State Championships.

In a battle of the brothers, Ashley, Dion and Brody Jarvis all competed in the saloon car class on Sunday.

Ashley proved the winner on the day, taking out the trophy for second place and the all-important family bragging rights over his two brothers.

"All three of us are keen racers," Ashley said.

"Usually we only have two cars to compete in so usually one of us has to sit out but this time I was racing a loan car so we had all three of us on the track at the same time.

"I've been racing on the national circuit throughout the year, so it was great to get second place."

Brody Jarvis has been competing in the state competition all year in the hopes of securing enough signatures to compete in the 2016 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour endurance race.

Ashley said the brothers shared a competitive spirit that has taken them from the backyard to the racing track.

"We are all massively competitive," he said.

"It probably started when we were playing cricket in the backyard and we've taken it with us onto the track."

The family have been competing in Warwick since 2006 and said recent upgrades had brought the track to a national class level.

Sunday was the final race day for the Warwick track as teams from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and NSW took part in the two-day event.

Event Secretary Barry Nixon-Smith said the number of competitors was the most seen at the Morgan Park racetrack in recent times.

"It's definitely one of the biggest events we have had all year," he said.

"We were lucky not to be too affected by the rain on Saturday with just the final race of the day on a wet track."

A huge program featured 33 events held over the two days.

On Saturday qualifying races were held before the start of official competition with 11 races held on the first day and 22 races on Sunday.

For the first time the TransAm class had enough entrants to hold a separate class, usually the event is run in conjunction with the sports sedan class.

"It's been great to be able to have a stand-alone event for the big American muscle cars," Nixon-Smith said.

"It's a bit unusual to see on an Australian track and I'm sure the spectators have enjoyed watching them go through the paces."
