Beattie gears up for London games

ATHLETICS: WARWICK athlete Carlee Beattie has no doubt she can one day jump six metres as she approaches her second Paralympics in London at the end of August.

Beattie competed in the 100m and 200m at Beijing but, approaching London, her best event is set to be the long jump.

She currently holds the world record for the long jump in the F46 class.

Beattie is training hard under coach Brett Jones at the State Athletics Centre in Brisbane.

Her emphasis now is on gym work after suffering some tendonitis in a ham-string.

"I am having a break from competition but am in full-on training," Beattie said.

Going on form since Beijing, she is the favourite to win the long jump but is also aiming to compete in the 100m and 200m.

After London, Beattie plans to compete in more able-bodied events in the long jump.

Her best at present is 5.89m.

"I am confident I can better six metres," Beattie said.

She needs to jump 6.4m to 6.5m to make an Australian team in able-bodied athletics.
