Beattie on back foot as leg injury halts training

ATHLETICS: World record holder Carlee Beattie has suffered a freak training accident and will miss at least six weeks of training.

Beattie hurt her leg during training late Monday and had a plate inserted in her leg at a Gold Coast hospital on Tuesday.

Her father Rob Beattie said Carlee went into hospital on Monday night and could be released at the weekend.

"She will have to be off her leg for a fortnight,” Rob said.

"It was a similar injury but much worse than the injury with her last jump at Rio - she hyperextended her leg in training.”

Her target this year was to medal at the world championships in London.

Due to the injury, Beattie will not be able to travel to Warwick to be guest speaker at the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year awards dinner on Monday night.
