From bedridden to 700km trekker

FOR almost 10 years, simply walking to the end of her driveway was a serious mission.

Now Kyogle resident Rachel Klyve, who suffered with severe chronic fatigue syndrome, is well and walking the whopping 700kms from Byron Bay to Sydney.

This week she passed through the Northern Beaches.

"I was so sick for 10 years of my life," Ms Klyve said.

Bed-ridden for five years, she said she was forced to watch her life pass her by.

"Chronic fatigue is extremely under-funded even though there are more than 190,000 people who suffer from it nationally.

"I wanted to do something to raise awareness and funds and I wanted to do a walk, simply because I can now."

She said also wanted other sufferers to know that they too can get better.

"I want to show people who have the disease that someone who was once extremely ill can get better and so something a little bit exceptional."

Ms Klyve walked into Woolgoolga on Tuesday before trekking on to Moonee Beach on Wednesday and then Coffs Harbour yesterday.

"It's been absolutely wonderful, I've had fabulous weather, met some of the most amazing, generous and lovely people - I'm really enjoying myself."

All money raised on the trip will go to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Australia.
