Bellantina wins Warwick RSL Memorial Club Long Tan Cup

KILLARNEY trainer Les Clarke was the most successful trainer at Saturday's Warwick Turf Club race meeting at Allman Park.

The meeting was sponsored by the Warwick RSL Memorial Club and was well supported by members of the RSL and their guests.

Clarke won the main race, the Warwick RSL Memorial Club Long Tan Cup over 1100m, with his mare Bellantina.

He started the day in winning form with Boot Shaker, which was ridden to victory in the Maydan Feedlot Maiden over 800m.

Both were ridden by winning Weetwood Handicap jockey Skye Bogenhuber.

Most of the jockeys who rode in Warwick headed to Toowoomba later in the day to ride in the Saturday twilight meeting.

Clarke lives at Killarney but trains his horses on the Allman Park track.

Warwick trainer Mick Hemmings was successful in the 1200m Maiden with Massie Belle, a three-year-old filly owned by local concreter Dave West and his wife Bev.

That was the first win for Massie Belle in her 10th start.

She has previously been placed on the race track, including one place at Ipswich.

Warwick trainer Len Bryant recorded a second in the last race with Street Sister. Experienced Toowoomba jockey Gary Geran was on board.

Warwick Turf Club president Jim Costello said he rated Geran highly as a jockey.

"He knows the Warwick track like the back of his hands and likes heading to Allman Park," Costello said.

"Gary supports most of our meetings."
