Beloved October event springs back to life

RAIN on the forecast has gardening enthusiast Gina Hing smiling as she anticipates everything looking greener for the Warwick Horticultural Society Floral Window competition.

Mrs Hing and business partner Sharon Price from Two Friends in Stitches entered the window display competition for the first time last year and won the Reserved Small Display Champion award.

Years of looking after her own garden and entering in the spring competitions led to the last-minute decision to create a display for their store.

"Everyone wants to be surrounded by pretty things, so I wanted to bring that into the store,” Mrs Hing said.

The design incorporated lots of fresh flowers from her own garden and a specially-made background to tie in the rodeo theme.

"Right now it's about keeping the gardens weed free, freshly fertilised and give them enough water when you can,” Mrs Hing said.

Entries are now open for the Floral Window competition which will be judged on October 26.

President of the Horticultural Society Graham Gillam said seeing everyone's unique styles was his favourite part of the displays.

"It's hard to choose a favourite, there's a lot of effort put in and everyone makes it true to their own style,” Mr Gillam said.

"I wouldn't want to be in the position to judge the windows, every year they turn out wonderful.”

Without giving away too many details, Mr Gillam said the judge will be coming from Stanthorpe.

Competitors have the opportunity to enter in 10 categories with prizes to be awarded to the overall champions as well.

Nomination forms with the category criteria can be picked up from Bryson's Place at 66 Palmerin St.
