A WARWICK rider and a Warwick-bred horse combined to win the biggest campdraft of all, the Pryde's EasiFeed Warwick Gold Cup at the Warwick Showgrounds yesterday.

Ben Tapp was 15th into the arena and scored 90 in the final on Acres of Roses to win with a three-round score of 269. He won by one from runner-up Steve Comiskey on Delta.

Comiskey was seventh into the arena to score 89 in the final and Tapp knew he had to ride well to take the lead.

"I didn't think too much about what score I needed to lead, I just go out and do the best I can," Tapp said.

The cup win was the second in four years for Tapp, he won in 2012 on Cool Dust and also competed on the same horse this year in Warwick.

He competed on three horses in the Warwick Gold Cup.

Tapp has owned land in the Warwick district for six years and lived in the area for two years after coming originally from the Northern Territory.

Acres of Roses was bred, trained and ridden in competition by Warwick campdrafting enthusiast Peter Mutch and has been ridden by Tapp in competition for the past year.

Tapp and partner Kylie Barnett have 10 competition horses they work for campdrafting.

"We have been on the road for four weeks to Delungra (NSW), Goondiwindi, Condamine, Chinchilla and now Warwick campdrafts.

He won a novice at Goondiwindi on Acres of Roses and wasn't surprised he was on the winners' podium in Warwick.

"I had a belief in the mare," he said.

"We hope to breed from her one day." Tapp admits that the Warwick Rodeo was an attraction to move to the area.

"There is a strong horse industry here," he said.

Michael Cole (Nebo) riding Jackson and Peter Lamont (Gin Gin) on Cherry Oak were equal third on a score of 267.

Troy Palmer from Coolah (NSW) rider was equal fifth riding Lareena with Kingaroy and former Killarney rider Jon Templeton on Docs Lethal Destiny.

Walcha (NSW) rider Bruce McNaughton had three horses in the final, an outstanding effort.

Troy Palmer from Coolah (NSW) rider who came back within two months of suffering a broken leg was one of a number of riders with two finalists.

The cattle for the final were loaned by Mac and Gayle Shann from Clermont and like for the Canning Downs final on Saturday, added to the spectacle of the final.
