Johns rates Bennett as best

A RUGBY league coach who lived his childhood in the Killarney, Allora and Warwick areas has been rated “the best” by Matty Johns.

The Channel 7 frontman for the Thursday night The Matty Johns Show was at Leyburn on Sunday after winning a bet with Shane Webcke on the Newcastle game against Brisbane.

Part of the roof of Webcke’s pub, the Royal Hotel, is now in Newcastle colours.

Surrounded by fans on Sunday, Johns made no secret of his belief St George would win the NRL premiership.

Part of his reasoning is that Bennett is at the helm.

Johns was less-committed about what should be happening with Melbourne Storm points for the rest of the season after the salary cap violation was exposed.

“It is hard to criticise the NRL if I don’t have a solution,” he said.

Johns said he and Webcke would work out some bet on State of Origin.

The former Newcastle star is much more confident about the chances of his side, New South Wales, after the Queensland and Melbourne Storm hooker was ruled out for a month.

“You can see how well Cameron leads Melbourne around, and it is the same with Queensland,” Johns said.

“My idea on Origin is fifth time lucky for the Blues.”
