Best hockey players in Warwick battle it out

FAST-PACED games of hockey put the best players in Warwick to the test last night in round two of the Condamine Sports Club Super League.

Women's team Chicks with Sticks were victorious over the She Devils, with a final margin of six points to one.

It continued the Chicks with Sticks' unbeaten run in the three-round series, enabling them to claim victory before the third round is held.

The men's competition was more even, with a final margin of three points to two, with the Riverhawks claiming victory over the Warriors.

Jake Reid of the Warriors took out best player for the men, while Yasmin McWinney was named best player for the women's match.

The Super League teams are made up of the top players in Warwick Hockey Association.

Warwick Hockey Association vice-president Al Balfour said it was good to see healthy competition between the teams.

"We try and pick the best players from the A grade and you build different combinations,” he said.

"There was some really good display of hockey, good shot passing and goal scoring.

"It's good to see how well the juniors are coming on into the higher level hockey.”

The final round of the league, to be held on June 23, will be the decider for the men's competition.

Balfour said it was too close to pick the team that might come out on top.
