Best riders, bulls in the nation at Warwick Cowboys Rodeo
RODEO: Fraser Babbington will ride the bull Super Charged Slinky in the Ray Bunch Machinery Warwick Cowboys Rodeo tonight at Father Ranger Oval.
The current APRA record holder for the highest score, Babbington (pictured earlier this year in Dalby) will be up against a combination rated by rodeo organiser Scott Keogh as the best in Australia.
"Jason O'Hearn is in my opinion the best bull rider in the nation and he will ride Heather's Little Spinner, a bull I rate as the best in the country," Keogh said.
"Heather's Little Spinner threw off Fraser Babbington in Clifton last year, he rides 70 %-plus of his bulls. At some rodeos, no one makes time in the bull ride."
Haden cowboy Matt Boland has won money on Ozone and has drawn the same bull tonight.
Former Emu Vale rider Lachlan Slade will be on a bull from the Robert Bunn string at Roma.
Keogh said Ben Palmer from Toowoomba was an underrated rider would could surprise in the Adam Merrell Memorial Open Bull Ride.
Gates open at 5pm with the first 14 open bull riders starting the action at 7pm. The second 14 cowboys in the bull ride will be in the chutes sometime after 8.30pm.
"It will be non stop action on the bulls, bullocks, steer, poddies, mule and ponies," he said.
Cowboys to ride mules
WARWICK Cowboys players will have their toughest battle of the year when they come up against defending champion Mick Brackin from the Killarney Cutters in the Steve Ackland Concreting Footballers Mule Ride.
Brackin has competed in a few bull rides but won't get it all his own way against Cowboys pair Brook Croft and Mitch McMahon.
The Water Rats rugby union club also has three players in a field of 12.
