Best little town gears up for another huge event

AFTER the success of the Allora Heritage Weekend, the attention around 'the Best Little Town on the Downs' now turns to the 140th Annual Show on Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10.

The Showgrounds have undergone significant upgrades, particularly to the camp draft and jumping surface within the Show ring providing a safer surface for horses and riders.

There is an action packed ring program planned with events from 9am on Friday and Saturday starting at 7.30am with the showjumping.

Dog shows will be held in the Allora Kennel Club arena. Beginning at 6pm on Friday around 150 dogs will be judged by trainee judges in the Allora Kennel Club Open Show . The Allora Agricultural championship will begin at 9am on Saturday with judges from around Queensland judging around 500 dogs. The judges will once again be kept busy on Sunday with the Allora Kennel Club Championship Dog Show. There will be dogs of every breed and size so make sure you head on over and support these tremendous events while taking a look at the amazing canine collection.

As always excitement will be high at 7.30pm Friday night when the crowd takes their seats around the bull ring. The highlight of the night will be the inaugural Border Region Buckle Series Open Bullride. One rider will be drawn from the hat to ride Storm Boy the massive Brahman. The $1000 prize on offer from generous sponsor Stuart Bond Real Estate & Auctioneer will be incentive to be the first ever to ride this seven year old beast. This competition will be a round robin series in conjunction with Killarney and Warwick Shows.

The Allora Show office will be open for pavilion entries 7am-7pm Thursday and 7am- 8.30am on Friday. Judging will commence at 9am on Friday with the pavilion opening to the public from around midday. Entries need to be collected at 4.30pm on Saturday.

Chief pavilion steward Mark Pillar says that he was very impressed with the number and quality of schoolwork and hobby entries last year and is hoping for a similar number of entries this year. Whilst the season has been harsh for the produce, horticulture, floral art and pot plant exhibits Mark encourages people to adopt a 'bring the best you have in your garden' attitude.

Alongside the exhibits a CWA cooking demonstration will be held in the pavilion at various times.

Please note pavilion access is only via main gate and that the external pavilion entry no longer be in use.

All creatures great and small are welcome to enter the children's pet parade which will be held under the Showground's old bar at 10am on Saturday. Prizes will be given to the smallest, largest, best dressed pet and so on. The Darling Downs Zoo has donated two family passes and we thank Allora Show Society valued Life Member Cookie Tickle for his ongoing support for this event.

Ute Muster nominations will close at 11am Saturday followed by the judging at 11.30 am. Please contact James Kedar on 0458 151 493.

Saturday night is always very popular for families. Activities will start around 5pm following the ring events with ladies only and Buzzbox smash up derbys. There will be live entertainment through untill late in the bar area. The fireworks spectacular will erupt at 8pm followed by the smash up derby final which is always a huge hit.
