Best of Bushrangers
RUGBY LEAGUE: Two Queensland Outback representatives John Trindall and Jason Wilmot head the 19-man Border Bushrangers Rugby League Team of the Decade.
The selected team is the best who played for the Bushrangers from 2007 to 2016 with performances in club games not considered. Each year, Border plays in the South West Country trials and for many years in the 47th Battalion Carnival.
The clubs with the most representatives are Tenterfield and Stanthorpe with six each. One of the Stanthorpe players, Matthew Hendry, has gone on the represent Queensland in police rugby league.
The Killarney four are Trindall, Jamie Watts, Brett Lambert and Michael Marshall. The Cutters could also stake a claim for one of the Tenterfield six, Coedie Tandy, who helped Killarney win premierships in 2013 and 2014.
There are two Inglewood players in the team and one from Wallangarra, Matthew Rouen, a tough forward who was Mr Consistency in rep footy.
BRL president Norm Crisp said the selected team were the players at the top of their form when they played for the Bushrangers.
The Bushrangers recorded some historic wins against much bigger centres. Team of the Decade member Nathan Shatte scored one of the tries when Border beat Rockhampton 18-16 in 2010.
