Best places to go glamping on the Sunshine Coast
THE Sunshine Coast isn't flush with places marketing themselves as exclusive glamping spots, but a few have heeded the call for luxury camping.
One is Lake Somerset Holiday Park, where permanently set-up safari tents let you sleep under canvas without having to worry about battling tent poles and guy ropes on your arrival.
Inside the safari tents are wooden floors, proper beds and mattresses, a fridge, lamp, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
Costing from just $70 a night, it's a more appealing option than a dingy motel room, and these safari tents also boast wooden decks with furniture so you can look out over impressive views of vast Lake Somerset. For those who insist on staying connected, the holiday park also offers free wifi hotspots for its guests.
On the northern edge of the Sunshine Coast, Cobb & Co Nine Mile Camping Grounds is also promoting the glamping way of life.
On 50 lush acres at the site of the old Cobb & Co horse change stables, glampers can enjoy a taste of the region's golden days in the late 19th century when Cobb & Co delivered mail passengers and gold from Gympie to Noosa.
On site are permanent hard-floored two-room tents with a queen bed in one room and two singles in the other, each with luxury bedding and linen, starting at $80 per night. Between the two rooms is a sheltered dining area with a barbecue; ideal for family meals with an al fresco feel.
From this comfy base, the region offers bushwalking, wildlife spotting, billabong swimming and pony rides, making this spot more appealing to those not typically enamoured with camping.
Maybe you should hedge your bets
