Best shine in rodeo's campdrafting
LATEST, 7PM: THE best of the best often shine in the Melbourne Cup of campdrafting and that is what has happened so far in the Black Toyota Warwick Gold Cup at the annual Warwick Rodeo.
Kingaroy campdrafter Mark Buttsworth scored 91 on Playgirl Freckles to take the early lead on a horse owned by Tenterfield couple George and Helen Mulkerin.
After the first 210 combinations completed their rounds this afternoon (Tuesday) three combinations were in second place behind Buttsworth, Goomburra rider Ian Gordon on Banshee Ginger Oak, William Tapp, of Wowan, on Fortyninner Dreaming, and Peter Boddy, of Woodside, riding Dreamin.
Emu Vale horsesman Ian Glasby rode Knights Nicholas to a score of 89 to be equal fifth in the Gold Cup along with Wally Rea, of Marlborough, riding Revlon, Goondiwindi rider Terry Hall and Copyright, Paul Stone, of Baralaba, riding Double Up Pepto, and Boulia rider Narda Grover on Hostage.
There is more first-round action on Wednesday and Thursday.
