Bette's giving is honoured

BEHIND every community organisation is a team of selfless volunteers, and behind many of our local volunteers is Bette Bonney.

For the past two years, Bette has spent countless hours as co-ordinator of volunteers for the region.

Her commitment was put to the test during the summer floods of 2010-2011 and subsequent recovery period, but many would agree Bette went above and beyond what anyone could expect.

During this period, she co-ordinated more than 200 local volunteers.

Bette had a vision to develop the region's general volunteer program and she has certainly done this through her dedication.

She gives top priority to providing speedy and high quality volunteer support to those who need it.

Bette voluntarily chairs the Domestic Violence Strategy Group and is a member of the steering committee that manages Warwick Safe Haven Domestic Violence Shelter. This organisation receives no government funding and relies on volunteers and community sponsorship.

Bette is also heavily involved in her local Baptist church and is responsible for bringing creative arts activities to the wider community.

Last year she took part in planning in the Baptist church's 100th birthday celebrations, where the church committed to providing a gift to the community.

"It is in giving that you receive," she says.

This is a value that epitomises Bette Bonney and her commitment to our community.
