Beware: stranger danger

POLICE are investigating in incident, in which an Assumption College student was approached by a stranger while walking to school this week.

A Warwick police spokesman said the male driver of a white Holden ute pulled up alongside the Year 8 boy on Wednesday morning and waved him over to his car.

Fortunately the boy ignored the man and kept walking.

The incident occurred on the corner of Locke and Guy Sts and was reported to both the police and the school.

Director of the Catholic Education Office John Borserio said the parent of the child involved made the school aware of the interaction between the student and the man.

"Both principals followed our Student Protection procedures and reported what they were told to the Catholic Education Office and the police," he said. "As a result, the matter is now in the hands of the police."

Mr Borserio stressed that student protection is "everyone's business".

"This is yet another example of how the partnership between schools, parents and the police works to keep our young people safe," he said.

"In the approach to all school holidays, all catholic schools reiterate the 'stranger danger' and 'keeping safe' messages."

Anyone with information should phone Warwick Police on 4660 4444.
