Big $10,000 boost for drought-stricken Longreach

MORE than $10,000 has been raised for drought-stricken Longreach in Warwick this month - and there's more to come.

Locals have donated generously to the Community Disaster Relief Van Outback Drought Relief fund in the past month.

CDRV board member Amanda Nothdurft estimates about $10,000 has been raised in the weeks leading up to the Warwick Rodeo.

"Most of the money raised has come from our stall in the Rose City Shoppingworld," Mrs Nothdurft said.

"We had a few people donate money straight to the account."

Visitors to the Warwick Rodeo also put their hands in their wallets, with the Friday night auction alone raising more than $2500.

"We still have two big donation tins from the rodeo we need to count," Mrs Nothdurft said.

More than 100 bales of hay from the Warwick region were also loaded and delivered to Longreach last week.

CDRV board member Brian Myer said 40 bales were donated by John Gosen and 66 came from Carey Bros.

"The hay was delivered to Oakley Station, in Longreach, where it will be distributed to those graziers in desperate need of hay to sustain their animals," he said.

The CDRV team will travel to Longreach in early December, delivering an estimated 200 hampers to drought-hit farmers.

There is also a plan to join with the community to host a special Christmas celebration in the town as well.

Donations of hampers, vouchers, hay, cheques and stock feed are still being taken in the lead up to the trip.
