Big chill sets us shivering
THERE was no missing the unmistakable chilly winter wind that swept across the Southern Downs yesterday.
Stanthorpe residents braced themselves with 3.6 degrees recorded at 3am by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and there were unconfirmed reports of a low of 1 degree.
BOM forecaster Dean Narramore said it was definitely cold right throughout much of the state on Tuesday night.
"(Yesterday) Warwick recorded a high of 22 degrees which is about three below average and a minimum of 11 overnight, which is right on average for this time of year," Mr Narramore said.
"That is pretty much what we can expect to see for the next couple of days - it is a static weather situation at the moment.
"This weather pattern is being caused by the big front moving from southern Australia and a high has brought cold dry air up, allowing for much cooler overnight temperatures and daytime temperatures that are cooler than average.
"I'd say there is still some warmth to come as these patterns are more reminiscent of June rather than April."
