Big Day Out concert gives value for free
IF A great rock concert is what you crave this weekend, but money and travel are out of the question, never fear.
On Sunday, all it takes is a short drive or stroll to Leslie Park for great tunes under the spring sun.
Warwick's Big Day Out kicks off at the new Youth Space, opposite WIRAC, from 10am and will finish around 4pm.
Headlining the free concert is home-grown pop/rock band Port Paradise.
The group is made up of former Warwick boys Brad Davies on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Matthew Vels on drums, Tim Dodds on vocals and lead and rhythm guitar, and Tim Alley on bass.
Supporting the band are Warwick talents Jodie Ellis, Awakening Voices Choir and Emma Bell.
Warwick Suicide Prevention Group director Johno Felton, which organised the event alongside Warwick Tourism and Events and headspace, said there was a need for such events in the region.
"We always hear complaints that there is nothing to do here in Warwick, so we tried to give them something fun and different to do," he said. "Warwick, this is your chance. If you were at the coast you would be paying $50, but we have it here for you for free," he said.
"We will try to put it on again, but if people don't support it, it won't be back."
Mr Felton encouraged everyone to come along and relax with great tunes.
"It will be a great day out for young people or for mum and dad to come down with the kids, find a shady tree and chill out to some great music.
"We have people coming from all around for it and it's going to be a great day," he said. "But don't bring your drugs - it is a drug and alcohol-free day."
