Big future for local young gun

BRODIE Sharman is one of many young rugby league players aiming to play NRL but realises he has to have a fallback position. He has done work experience as a plumber and gas fitter and hopes to secure an apprenticeship as a plumber.

“You must have a fallback (if NRL doesn't work out),” he said.

Sharman lives on a farm just out of Allora and is in Year 10 at Allora State School.

Last weekend, he played in the Toowoomba Clydesdales team which went down in its Cyril Connell Cup semifinal in under-16 footy.

Sharman played wing and centre for Toowoomba and scored a try in the 36-30 loss to Easts Tigers.

He is young enough to play another season in the Toowoomba team in the Cyril Connell Cup in 2012.

Warwick player Bill Sullivan attends Toowoomba Grammar School and was also part of the Clydesdales team this season.

This week, Sharman heads to Wynnum with the Darling Downs 15 years schoolboys rugby league team to play in the state championships.

“I am aiming for the state team but know we have to win games,” Sharman said.

“They pick two Queensland teams after the carnival and I reckon I have a good chance to make one team.”

Sharman has been working hard on the weights and will play at lock for Darling Downs, a position where he sees his future.

Goalkicking is another string to his bow and he usually goes to training early or stays a little longer at the end to practice. He also has some goalposts at home.

Due to his representative commitments, Sharman hasn't played a game for the Wattles Warriors under-16 side but can't wait to line up in club footy.
