Big names in polocrosse ride into Warwick
Cassie Malady is accustomed to travelling, she was in Warwick as a junior for the 2012 nationals and headed to Darwin last year as an intermediate player with the Victorian team.
Now she is in Warwick for today's start of the Barastoc Interstate Series.
She was always going to play polocrosse as her father Lawrence Malady is a life member of the sport in Victoria.
Since the age of six, she has been playing for the Trafalgar club and welcomed the chance to take in a bit of heat at Morgan Park yesterday when word was it was cold and wet in Victoria.
This weekend, she will ride her horse Jack, a seven-year-old gelding.
Victoria will field men's and women's under-21 team in the Barastoc series as well as four players in the development teams playing against the Australian World Cup team.
Matt Jarmain, Erin Nisbet, Luke Lossberg and Kelly Allen are the four Victorians coming up against the Aussies which Jarmaine is excited about.
"It is a great opportunity to play the best and see how much we have to improve to get where they are," he said.
After playing for Australia in intermediate Test matches against Ireland at Cunningham and Warwick grounds in 2013, Jarmain is eyeing off some more games in national colours.
"I would love to be able to push for a spot in the Australian team for the 2019 World Cup at Morgan Park," he said.
Back home at Ballan in Victoria, Jarmain and mate Luke Lossberg work as fencing contractors.
They both played in club games at the Australian Junior Classic at Albury last weekend at which a club competition was held with the junior classic.
Zoe Boulton is also in Warwick for the weekend but puts her role down more as the truck driver who transported five horses from Victoria to Albury and now to Warwick.
