Big night for Stosur

SAM Stosur will fly the Aussie flag against Russian Nadia Petrova in tonight's third round match-up at the French Open.

Stosur was again in sparkling form in the second round, disposing of unheralded American Irina Falconi 6-1 6-4.

The sixth seed also made a strong start to the tournament last year before a surprise third-round loss to Giselo Dulko.

Petrova, seeded 27 at Roland Garros, boasts a 5-2 career record against Stosur, including a win at their last meeting in Indian Wells earlier this year.

In other second round results, Venus Williams followed sister Serena out of the tournament after losing 6-2 6-3 to Agnieszka Radwanska.

In men's action, Swiss maestro Roger Federer set a new open era record of 234 wins in major tournaments when he beat Romania's Adrian Ungur 6-3 6-2 6-7 6-3.

Top seed Novak Djokavic beat Slovenia's Blaz Kavcic 6-0 6-4 6-4 to notch his 23rd consecutive Grand Slam victory.

The Serb needs just five more to win his fourth straight major title
