Big W DC opens up its gates to the public

IF 200 people through the gates in the first hour is any indication of how the Big W open day went, it's safe to say it was a success.

One eight-year-old visitor, Joshua Neucom, was so impressed with the place, he and his younger brother Sam made sure they toured every corner of the distribution centre before heading home.

"We went for a tour and we saw all the big trucks which were really cool," Joshua said.

"And we saw how they wrap all the stuff in plastic.

"And then we got to walk through and see them stack all the boxes with a forklift."

The pair mingled with the workers and decided the DC staff were a friendly bunch - especially when lollies were on offer.

Out the front of the centre, kids enjoyed a jumping castle and most could not go past the wafting aroma of a sausage sizzle put on by the Lions Club.

Big W HR manager Ian Jamieson said he was pleased with how the open day went and thought everyone benefited from the experience.

"It's been a fantastic event," he said.

"The people coming through were really surprised at the magnitude of the operation and were amazed by the machinery we have here."

Gold coins were donated by visitors on entry, and all proceeds will go towards Care

Flight and other nominated charities.
