Big year for Grow Strong

WARWICK'S Grow Strong MMA gym has gone from strength to strength in 2016.

The membership has expanded to around 40 including juniors and owner/trainer Ben Pepper has had to double the size of his gym to accommodate the numbers.

"It's been a great year, we've had a lot happen and it's only the beginning,” Pepper said.

"We're just about to have been up and running for 12 months, so it's great to past that little milestone.”

The gyms trains on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday concentrating on the disciplines of wrestling, jui jitsu and kick boxing.

Pepper said the warmer weather had definitely brought more people to the club.

"Apart from the that, the sport of MMA is certainly gaining a lot more interest around town,” he said.

"We had our first lot of competitors go through this year, we had seven fighters in total over three different events.

"We actually ended up with a heap of medals and ended up in the top ten in the state out of 36 gyms, and we were definitely the newest gym there.”

In 2017, Ben Pepper will be running a 12 week corporate fight challenge and working towards kick-boxing and MMA fights for his fighters as well as training the juniors for jui jitsu competitions.
