Biggest Warwick sports night of the year gets lots of buzz

NUMBERS are building for the Warwick sports night of the year, the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union 20th anniversary sports star awards night on March 9 at Kings at the Warwick RSL.

Dinner organisers are encouraged by the interest in the dinner but ask all those planning to attend the dinner to purchase their tickets as soon as possible.

Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased at the Daily News front counter with Eftpos, credit card, cash and cheque.

Many of the sportsmen and women who have won more than 400 monthly awards down the years will be at the dinner at which nationally-acclaimed poet Marco Gliori will be guest presenter.

Olympic silver-medal winning hockey player Lee Bodimeade will be interviewed on the night along with a small number of past monthly winners.

Past winners include World Cup shooter Greg Newey, Olympic gold medallist Dena Butler and two players at the top of their games in Queensland sport, Reds rugby prop Greg Holmes and Queensland Firebirds netball captain Laura Geitz.

Former Warwick State High School hurdler Tim Johnstone is one of many who will make the trip from Brisbane to attend the dinner.

Three of the past winners are currently in America after winning awards in taek won do, gymnastics and squash.

More information on the awards from sports reporter Gerard Walsh on 46601313 or gerardw@warwickdailynews.com.au.
