Biker convoy keen to set record
ULYSSES Club's Warwick Branch is calling all bikers to support their 'Bikes Thru a Bar' fundraiser in Leyburn on October 7-9.
The club aims to get as many bikes as possible to ride through the Shane Webcke Royal Hotel, beating the record of 1293 set in Aratula in 2006.
The event is also a fundraiser for RACQ Careflight Rescue, The Leaukaemia Foundation and the Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund.
Ulysses Club's Warwick Branch president Dennis King said people from all over Australia would be there.
"We've been advertising in Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory," he said.
"I've had people call from Canberra as well to tell me they are coming, so it's a really big thing."
Mr King said they tried beating the record two years ago in Drake but it was rained out and they only reached a target number of 700 bikes.
He says their goal is to raise $15,000 so each charity would receive $5000.
"We're hoping to make it an annual event," he said.
The weekend will be packed with live music and stalls, beginning Friday night and carrying on until Sunday.
Representatives of the charities will also be attending to sell raffle tickets.
The ride through will start on Saturday at 9am with registrations opening at 8.30am.
The event costs $15 to participate and is free for spectators.
