Bikes bombed with masses of creativity

COLOURFUL and creatively decorated bicycles were paraded by children with great big smiles in front of the Warwick Town Hall on Sunday morning as they participated in the Yarn Bomb Your Bike event.

The event attracted 13 children aged between two and 10, who embraced the spirit of Jumpers and Jazz and used their creativity to jazz up their bikes for the winter festival.

Warwick Art Gallery director Karina Devine said it was a great way to get the younger generation involved in the festival and she hoped it would continue to grow in the coming years.

"I can't describe how adorable they all are and what a wonderful job they do," she said.

"The work the children and their families do is much appreciated and everyone who participates is rewarded with a ribbon."

Brother and sister team - Ryan King aged two with his jazz themed entry, and Felicity King aged three with her Frozen themed bike - wowed the crowd with their creative ability.

Ryan portrayed a typical jazz singer with his red glittering coat and top hat and bike decked out with musical instruments, while sister Felicity glistened in her white sparkling dress and bike covered with silver and white sparkles to match.

Grandmother Connie Forbes said she helped out a bit with the decorating of the bikes but her grandchildren did the majority of it.

"I love seeing the kids participate in the festival and have fun," she said.

"I encourage them to bring out their creativity and get involved in the community."
