Bikie crackdown sees police charge 184 people

THE Queensland Government's crackdown on criminal motorcycle gangs has seen police charge 184 people with 362 offences, execute 47 warrants, issue 102 traffic offence infringement notices and carry out more than 4106 street checks on suspected bikies in less than three weeks.

Minister for Police and Community Safety Jack Dempsey told State Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 29) Queenslanders wanted the State Government to get tough on crime across the state.

"The people of Queensland know that criminal motorcycle gangs are parasites who prey on the most vulnerable people in our society," he said.

"This government has made it absolutely clear that their criminal activities and networks will no longer be tolerated.

"We have vowed to smash them and that is exactly what we are doing."

Mr Dempsey said it had been made extremely clear bikies were no longer welcome in Queensland.

"If they congregate together, we will hunt them down. If they gather in their clubhouses, we will be waiting for them," he said.

"We will use the full power of our new laws to ensure that they are removed from our society and inside prison they will be subjected to the country's toughest prison regime, reflecting society's outrage at their activities.

"Criminal gangs can run, but they cannot hide.

"If they continue their criminal activities, we will crush every last one of them."

Mr Dempsey issued a stern warning to those criminal motorcycle gangs who believe they could bend the law and continue operating in the state.

"Let me make it clear to all members of criminal gangs: we intend to wipe you out of existence," he said.

"The people of Queensland have asked us to get tough on law and order.

"We make no apologies. We are listening to them."
