POLOCROSSE: BJ Thomas wasn't sure he was going to get the call to play polocrosse for Australia.

But at age 37, the call came and he is "pretty excited” to be debuting in the green and gold this week at Morgan Park.

Thomas is originally from Western Australia but moved with his family to Indonesia for three years and then spent almost 15 years in Darwin where he and younger brother Ben both played polocrosse along with their mum Bloss Thomas, a long time player. He first played the game at age eight.

Thomas played for Northern Territory from juniors to open men's before moving back to Western Australia.

He is in Warwick with four horses, three to go in the pool and one for his wife Marijke to play in the Western Australian women's team in the Barastoc.

Their three children are over from Western Australia for the Test series and already son Archie has played in carnivals at Cunningham and Killarney.

After two weeks of preparation, Thomas said in the run up to last night's First Test that it would be good to get out there and play.

"We have had a good preparation,” he said.

He predominately plays No.1 (shooter) and No.2 (midfield).

Thomas purchased the accountancy business, Anderson, Munro and Wyllie and is involved in auditing anything from schools to shires, clubs or self managed superannuation funds.

"With three children at home and 30 horses, I don't think much about work when I am home,” he said.

The Thomas family live at Muchea on the northern outskirts of Perth and they play polocrosse for the South Midlands club.

Playing for Australia in the Carroll Truck Sales International Series this week is a dream come true for BJ Thomas and he has plenty of family in town to cheer him on.
