Black Caviar hot for Royal Ascot

Black Caviar installed as favourite for Royal Ascot race in June.

AFTER watching champion mare Black Caviar rack up 20 consecutive wins on Australian soil, English bookmakers can see no reason why her unbeaten run won't continue in that country.

Betting giant William Hill has installed the mare as a $1.50 favourite to kick off her overseas campaign with a win in the Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes over 1200m at Royal Ascot in June.

Trainer Peter Moody has flagged one more race start in Australia for Black Caviar in the Group One Goodwood over 1200m at Morphettville in two weeks, before heading to Royal Ascot.

That is the same course and distance where she disposed of a moderate field in the $400,000 Sportingbet Classic on Saturday to ring up a new Australasian record of 20 consecutive wins on Saturday.

After that race, Moody said he was thrilled to see a sell-out crowd of 33,000 fans turn out, many of them dressed in salmon and black, to see the champ go around.

"It was tremendous to get a nice gallop. Happy days," Moody said. "She's in great shape and it's just fabulous to see the people here to enjoy her today.

"I don't think we ever had too much concern."

William Hill spokeswoman Lucy Rhodes said she didn't expect Black Caviar to have any concerns on June 23 either.

While the final field is yet to be determined, the mare is the only runner under double figures in the early nominations which includes five other Australian gallopers.

The nine-time Group One winner is followed by English sprinters Bated Breath and Hoof It at $13, with Group One Golden Shaheen winner Krypton Factor at $15.

Sydney three-year-old Foxwedge and 2011 Golden Slipper winner Sepoy are at $17, with recent Dubai Group One sprint winner Ortensia at $21.

William Hill has Australian-bred three-year-old Helmet at $34 with Temple of Boom, the winner of the Group One Galaxy over 1100m at Randwick on April 21, Temple Of Boom, at $41 to win the UK's top sprint race.
