Bland, tasteless fruit contributing to Qld obesity epidemic?
QUEENSLANDERS have become more overweight and have been eating less fruit and vegetables in the past two years, according to the latest Queensland Health statistics.
Dietician Daniel Murray believes a change in the taste of fruit and vegetables is one reason for the trend.
"The quality and taste of fruit and vegetables - if you think back to 10 or 20 years ago - it is very different to what they taste like now," he said.
"And I think that is why we are eating less and less of it."
Queensland Health's Self Reported Health Statistics 2012, released Thursday, show 53.7 per cent of Queenslanders over the age of 18 ate two serves of fruit a day in 2012, down from 57.2 per cent in 2010.
What do you think? Are we eating less fruit and vegetables because of the taste, the price, or is it that fast food is just easier? Have your say below
