Blokes outnumbered in Southern Downs council departments
DESPITE only making up 38 per cent of the Southern Downs Regional Council workforce, women still hold the majority in all but one department.
The statistics were released in the human resources quarterly report during the corporate services committee meeting.
A total of 405 people are employed by the council across executive, corporate services, engineering, planning and environment and community services departments.
There are equal numbers of both genders in the executive arena but females rule the roost in all other departments excluding engineering.
Engineering is the biggest department with 212 men but only 11 women.
Southern Downs Regional Council human resources manager Louise Harding said the report also highlighted the aging workforce of the council staff.
"The average age is 46, we have a number in the range of 55-64 and more over 65," she said.
"We are looking at retirement planning, information training and development planning."
Most staff have proven loyal to the council with the average employee staying with the organisation for 11 years.
A total of 54 people have been with the council between 21-30 years and 18 for more than 30 years.
Field staff reported eight new workplace incidents.
"A large 88 per cent of training has been dedicated to skills," Ms Harding said.
"In regards to safety we are doing some core strength training with the outdoor workforce, aimed at building resilience.
"Health and safety have good results in terms of workers compensations with minimal injuries.
"We encourage the reporting of injuries."
