Blue period over
A refreshing coat of inspiration has wafted over the new hockey turf, with players champing at the bit to run on the new field during the first game last night.
Don Campbell, from Wyverns, said the new turf boosted everyone's spirits.
"It's something special," Campbell said.
"To have this one done, with all the extra work that went into it and to have the latest turf like at London Olympics is amazing."
He said it was like playing an entirely different game on the new blue surface.
"The advantage is, from certain angles, the reflection of white lights on green turf can make it hard to see because the ball can blend in with the green sometimes, so it will be easier to see the ball on blue turf," Campbell said.
"Playing on this new turf will mean a great deal to many people."
With the retaining wall around the field now complete, players are confident the ground will survive another flood if that unfortunate event was to happen.
