Blues set to dominate Kangaroos Test team after Origin win
SPORTSVIEW with Gerard Walsh
I CAN'T find any more than six spots for Queenslanders in an Australian rugby league team selected after the State of Origin series.
A team isn't being named now but could play Tonga at the end of the season. But no harm in putting a selectors' hat on.
I am a bit of a fan of Daly Cherry-Evans who was instrumental in the Maroons win in Origin III but it is hard to go past the consistent Nathan Cleary at halfback.
Billy Slater, Valentine Holmes, Dane Gagai, Cameron Munster, Josh McGuire, Felice Kaufusi, Cherry-Evans and possibly Ben Hunt on the bench are the only Queenslanders who would come into contention.
Cameron Munster can't be left out which means James Moloney will go to halfback which leaves Cherry Evans or Hunt or Cleary for the bench. I also think Gagai will be pushing hard to break up the new Blues centre pairing.
Queensland will do well to get six out of 17 but that is the reality after looking at the first two games. Except for their performance in game 3, the Maroons could have finished with two or three.
Grand final run
I BETTER come up with a new plan to do something for charity if the Warwick Cowboys and Wattles Warriors both make the A-grade grand final in the Toowoomba Rugby League.
Three years ago, I was within a minute of walking the promised trek from the Eight Mile to Massie Hall as the Cowboys just missed a grand final spot. Wattles won the flag.
Two years ago, the Cowboys went down in the grand final against Pittsworth when Wattles missed out on the season decider. There is a realistic chance of a Wattles/Warwick grand final this season. Wattles are odds on to make it and Warwick is going well.
