Boat propeller injures girl

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD girl suffered serious cuts to her upper thigh and buttock after she was thrown from her family's boat and came into contact with the propeller near Hamilton Island earlier this morning.

The girl's mother was also thrown into the water and injured her hand.

A RACQ-CQ Rescue spokeswoman said the incident occurred when the throttle of the vessel became stuck and started to spin the boat in circles.

The father and a three-year-old boy managed to stay on board.

The RACQ-CQ Rescue helicopter airlifted the girl around 11.50am and arrived at Mackay Base Hospital at 12.20pm with both patients in a stable condition.
