Bob will visit, party assures
BOB Katter is no closer to setting a date to visit the Southern Downs, but Australian Party campaign director Luke Shaw said Warwick was definitely still on the agenda.
Early last month Mr Katter told the Daily News he thought he would beat Campbell Newman to the Rose City, but the LNP leader came and went weeks ago.
"Things change so quickly with itineraries but we definitely intend on coming to Warwick and Stanthorpe," Mr Shaw said.
"As soon as we know we'll certainly be letting you know, no questions, we'll be there."
Mr Shaw said while he couldn't name names yet, there were a couple of potential candidates from the area who may stand for the party.
"We have got a process so we want to go through that and get the very best candidate," he said.
Mr Shaw said disillusioned constituents had showed support for the new party.
"We have got very strong support from Warwick and Stanthorpe," he said. "They are looking for a change in not just the government but how the governing is done.
"The big thing we are finding from both sides is they don't think LNP is offering a good alternative to Labor."
Mr Shaw said there were some big issues from the Southern Downs area on the party's agenda.
"We are looking at restoring land holder rights, coal seam gas companies who trample all over graziers' and farmers' land, the deregulation of markets causing farmers to compete with crops from overseas," Mr Shaw said.
"Regional Queensland has just been abandoned when it comes to infrastructure, especially roads. We just want to make sure that everyone gets a fair go."
