Freestone bookworms in battle of brains
FREESTONE State School students recently competed in the Readers' Cup Challenge and Maths Challenge at Warwick High School.
The Readers Cup Challenge required students to answer questions and complete tasks relating to three books they had read and studied at school.
Over 30 teams from Warwick schools competed for trophies and prizes in the Great Hall at Warwick High School.
Students sat in their teams watched by family, friends and teachers - all giving the teams support.
Trophies and medallions were awarded for first and second place and prizes given for teams displaying great organisation and teamwork, as well as good behaviour.
Although the Freestone teams were small for The Readers' Cup Challenge, the team of two, Thomas Ryan and Lilly Oloman came second overall and the team of three, Bianca Dudman, Georgia Sollars and Joseph Beh, were awarded the best behaved team.
They also came third overall in the points tally.
A week later the Freestone Team of Thomas Ryan, Joseph Beh, Bianca Dudman and Georgia Sollars competed in the Maths Challenge, this time in the library at Warwick High
Once again they were successful in representing their school, competing against Warwick and Stanthorpe schools.
The Freestone School team was awarded certificates of participation.
A mighty effort indeed for a small school.
The Year Four competitors are looking forward to taking part in these great academic challenges again next year.
