Boomers breeze past Hong Kong

BASKETBALL: Australia continued their dominant start to the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup with a clinical 99-58 win over Hong Kong in Beirut yesterday.

Led by Mackay-born Todd Blanchfield, the Boomers never left second gear on route to their second win from as many games in the tournament.

Blanchfield finished with a game-high 18 points on an impressive 7/12 from the field, to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Mitch Creek was strong for Australia as well, scoring 15 points and nine rebounds, including some thunderous dunks.

The Brisbane Bullets were well represented by Daniel Kickert, who chipped in 11 points, including 3/6 from beyond the arc, as well as five rebounds and four assists in just 20 minutes of game time.

The Boomers are heavy favourites to sweep the pool stage of their first ever Asian campaign, when they take on Chinese Taipai tomorrow night (11pm Australian time).
