Eat fresh local produce and boost your energy levels
RESIDENTS of the Southern Downs are being encouraged to eat fresh local produce this Christmas to boost their metabolism and energy levels.
Seven farm fresh produces including beans, chilli peppers, apples and watermelons have been identified by Australian health and fitness expert Paul Scicluna as the key to boosting metabolism and energy levels over the festive season.
Mr Scicluna is launching a campaign to encourage Australians to eat more fruits and vegetables this Christmas- highlighting the importance of eating fresh produce from local farmers.
The health and fitness expect, whose work is backed by top Australian cardiologist Dr Jodie Ann Senior, said that there are a number of food myths that he is out to debunk.
"We have been told to get protein, you need to eat a lot of meat - this is not the case," he said.
"In my opinion - molecule for molecule - there's actually more nutrition and muscle building nutrients in vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts than meat."
The seven fresh foods that Mr Scicluna recommends for Australians this Christmas are: beans, apples, chilli peppers and jalapenos, watermelon, grapefruit, broccoli and water.
Mr Scicluna said that these foods will give people more energy and help them shed the kilos.
"Australian's simply aren't eating enough fruits and vegetables," he said.
"Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise."
"By eating clean you will get lean."
