Borbidge guest at Eastlink Reunion and Celebration
FORMER Queensland premier Rob Borbidge will be at Gordon Country at Goomburra tomorrow from noon to 3pm for the Eastlink Reunion and Celebration.
Event organiser Sue Gordon was co-chair of an action group 20 years ago that fought against the proposed Eastlink high voltage power line from Tamworth to Toowoomba, which crossed the Southern Downs from west of Stanthorpe to just west of Allora.
Mrs Gordon said there were 660 properties from Stanthorpe to Toowoomba that would have been affected by the line.
"This celebration is about people standing up for people, neighbours unaffected by the proposed line supported their friends and neighbours during the successful campaign," she said.
Minister for Health and Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg will also attend.
Gordon Country is providing a free sausage sizzle, fun in the bush, bring your togs, bat, ball and seating and have a great time at the foothills of the Main Range National Park.
Access is off the New England Highway 2km south of Allora and then 15km past the Goomburra Hall.
