Border Bushrangers return with full side

Rugby League: The Border Bushrangers stepped out with a full side at weekend in their game against the South Burnett Blue team.

Coach Peter Brannigan said due to the weather, it started as a relatively mediocre game for the Bushrangers.

“It was a pretty scrappy game with all the rain about and stuff, so there was a fair bit of dropped ball,” he said.

“The boys in the first half seemed a little bit lacklustre just in defence, they weren’t really working well as a team.”

Down at half time, the team returned to the second half ready to play.

“They were definitely a lot stronger in the second half, there was a bit of power in their defence and they were definitely making themselves felt,” Brannigan said. However it was not enough, with the team losing the match 44-18.

New players also joined the team, with three boys from Killarney featuring in the match.

“They usually play Killarney A-grade and they came up to run for us and they did really well,” Brannigan said.

The boys will continue to play when available.

Country Club player of the match went to Zack Willis from Glen Ines for his efforts during the game.

At training this week, defence will be the major focus with Brannigan hoping to improve it ahead of this week’s game against Killarney.

The boys will travel there to play on Sunday at 11.30am.
