Liquor Legends bottle shop opening on horizon

THE grand opening of the Liquor Legends bottle shop on the corner of Wood and Wallace Sts is edging closer with roadwork surrounding the site almost complete.

Developer Tony Prentice has been waiting over a decade to see the project come to life.

The project was approved in May last year after a long process with Transport and Main Roads and Southern Downs Regional Council.

Mr Prentice will foot the bill for the roadworks at over $147,000 for new traffic islands and median strips.

Along with the bottle shop there is also room on the site for an additional food outlet.

"We are at an advanced stage with a national retailer for the lease of the remaining floor space," Mr Prentice said.

The Wood and Wallace Liquor Legends will be the second satellite outlet operated by the Criterion Hotel.

The site has been home to a bus terminal, service station and even a restaurant. The property has been sitting empty for close to 20 years.

Around five casual jobs and two permanent positions will be available when the bottle shop and food outlet open.

The vacant block in Wallace St, next door to the site, is not part of the development.
