Bowling with venom in final after escape from snake
CRICKET: Warwick Davis Shield cricket captain Dave Walker just missed the venom of a snake on Sunday - this Sunday he plans to bowl with plenty of venom against Toowoomba in a cricket final.
Walker spent Sunday night in hospital after being bitten by a snake on the family property at Freestone on Sunday afternoon but was out of hospital on Monday and back to work at APN Print today.
"I am feeling fine, I was bitten through my sock but blood tests determined there was no venom so I was lucky,” he said.
"I want to add venom to my bowling against Toowoomba. I was happy with my bowling against Lockyer with six overs for seven runs in our last game but have been struggling a bit on synthetic since.
"I definitely prefer to bowl on turf but have never bowled on Heritage Oval.”
As for the snake bite, he has a mark on his leg but the Toowoomba players won't see it, he just wants to find the edge of a few bats with his venomous out swingers.
While his brother-in-law Mark Steketee, bowls at 130kmh plus for the Brisbane Heat, Walker doesn't try to bowl anywhere near as fast.
"I just try to bowl line and length and swing the ball away from the right handers,” he said.
Walker wouldn't argue being described as a bowling all rounder
"I like to hit the ball hard when I bat, and have been opening in club T20 cricket. My aim is to have a strike rate above 100.”
