Boxing Day great one for racing
THE Hopes Body Repairs Boxing Day Races are expected to attract a crowd of more than 2000 on December 26 at Allman Park.
It will be the third TAB meeting of the year in Warwick after the meeting on Sunday attracted top-quality fields.
Warwick Turf Club committee member Nick Inmon said Warwick would be the only race meeting in South Queensland on the day other than Sunshine Coast.
"It is expected to attract a large number of starters from the metropolitan area and the cream of horses from the Darling Downs," he said.
"A Country Queensland Showcase Race will be part of the seven-event card," Mr Inmon said.
"The showcase race is a Benchmark 79 race over 1500 metres which will attract a heap of good horses. There will be $92,000 prize money for the seven races."
The Boxing Day Races and Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup meeting are the two biggest each year at Allman Park.
Club secretary Kristen Doyle said the club would provide its usual marquee for patrons but groups were welcome to set up their own marquees at Allman Park on the day.
"It is a great chance for friends and family to get together," Mrs Doyle said.
"People see old school mates on Boxing Day who they haven's seen for years. A lot of family groups attend."
