Boy, 15, detained after party crowd turns on police officers

NEW Year's Eve revellers are being urged to party responsibly this evening, with a number of people already charged with alcohol-related offences in the past week.

Warwick police acting officer-in-charge Shane Reid said a teenager had been charged after a Boxing Day party got out of control and guests turned on police

Acting Senior Sergeant Reid said officers were called to the Steele St residence after a number of complaints about a "drunken and out-of-control" party.

When officers arrived the unruly crowd turned on police, with reinforcements having to be called to contain the 15-strong crowd.

Snr Sgt Reid said the group was physically and verbally abusive to police and one officer sustained minor injuries as a result.

A 15-year-old boy was subsequently charged with public nuisance and obstructing police.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing and Snr Sgt Reid said more charges were expected to be laid.

Those planning to host parties to bring in 2014 tonight are reminded that noise restrictions apply at all hours of the day and night.

"A lot of people think 10pm or midnight is the cut-off for when you can have loud music but there are no times - you can have music blaring at midday and police can direct you to turn it down," he said.

"We certainly want people to have a good time but at the same time residents must be considerate of others and their neighbours."

Police will also be targeting drink-drivers in coming days, with two women charged with the offence in the past few days.

A 39-year-old Warwick woman was nabbed behind the wheel while allegedly more than twice the limit on Boxing Day.

The woman returned a reading of 0.115 while driving along Horsman Rd just after 1am.

She is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court next month, alongside a 63-year-old Brisbane woman who allegedly had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.058 while driving on Wallace St on the same day.

In other police news, a 19-year-old man has been charged with drug offences after police located marijuana and drug utensils at a Pratten St residence on Sunday.

The notorious Eight Mile intersection was last week again the site of a collision.

No one was injured.

Snr Sgt Reid said a vehicle travelling from Toowoomba to Warwick on Saturday morning failed to give way to a vehicle travelling from Warwick to Brisbane.

The driver of the offending vehicle, a 72-year-old Toowoomba woman, was issued with an infringement notice for failing to give way.

Police are also investigating a two-vehicle crash at the corner of Churchill Dr and Weewondilla Rd on Sunday.

Anyone who has information on a crime is urged to call Warwick police on 4660 4444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Always phone 000 in an emergency.
