Brand new building at Scots a hit
HONOURED and humbled was how former Scots PGC student Brian Hawkins felt when he was told the school's new boarding house would be named after him.
Mr Hawkins graduated from Scots PGC in 1947.
He was a very good athlete and belonged to the cricket, tennis and football teams.
He was named a prefect in 1946 and dubbed school captain in 1947.
After graduating he attended the University of Queensland to study geology.
And while his career took him to many places he never forgot everything Scots had done for him.
"Seventy-three years ago, a little five foot tall boy was standing at the Roma St train station with fellow Scots students," Mr Hawkins said.
"I had no idea it would turn out to be the journey of a lifetime.
"My time here at Scots means everything to me.
"They gave me confidence, I made mates and the camaraderie is amazing.
"I have fallen in love with this place.
"The friendships made are everlasting."
Since graduating Mr Hawkins has been a member of the foundation, provided financial support to the school and helped establish the scholarship fund.
Mr Hawkins, along with Federal LNP member for Maranoa Bruce Scott, was given the honour of unveiling the plaque outside the new Hawkins House Boarding Facility on Friday.
The new 50 bed facility was made possible thanks to a $480,000 grant from the Federal Government's Capital Grants Program.
