Brave Killarney police who stopped shooters are awarded

THREE police officers who apprehended two armed offenders at Killarney in 2012 have been awarded for their bravery and dedication to the cause.

Senior Sergeant Brett Wendt, Senior Constable Peter Bridger and Senior Constable Paul Coates - all from Ipswich - were involved in a chase through winding country roads, starting at Aratula and finishing in Killarney in July that year.

The pursuit ended when police deployed stingers to puncture the vehicle's tyres on Killarney's Spring Creek Rd.

The trio were awarded the Group Bravery Citation for their response.

The offenders had previously committed several armed and violent robberies and shot at police as they were intercepted.
