Truck and dual cab utility collide

PASSENGERS travelling in a dual-cab utility had a largely lucky escape yesterday after their vehicle collided with a Brisbane-bound truck on a bend on the Cunningham Hwy east of the Gap.

The accident happened at Mt Edwards, several kilometres to the south of Aratula.

One person in the utility was taken by ambulance to Ipswich General Hospital with a broken collarbone, with the crash forcing closure of the highway for two hours, between 1pm and 3pm.

One lane of the highway was opened by 4pm but delays continued under stop-go conditions as a heavy vehicle recovery crew worked to move the stricken truck and part of its load of sand to the side of the highway.

Police said two other people understood to have been travelling in the westbound utility and the driver of the truck received minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads issued a statement just after 6.30pm last night that both lanes of the highway were clear and operating.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Boonah police.
