Sunshine Coast stand-off ends after man located

A MAN was taken into custody last night after a tense standoff involving a man allegedly armed with a firearm on the Sunshine Coast.

Police reported just before 9pm on Friday night that a man was assisting police with their inquiries in relation to reports of a man with a firearm in Caloundra West.

A 38-year-old Sunshine Coast man was located by police at a Pelican Waters residence without incident at 7pm.

Investigations are continuing.

EARLIER: POLICE have entered the Caloundra West property where they believed an armed man was holed up - to no avail. 

Officers are now holding a conference as the search to find the individual in question continues.

A member of the community told police the man involved may be armed with a firearm - earlier today - however police are yet to confirm the accuracy of these reports. 

A large police presence has congregated at Unity College and it's understood the dog squad had been dispatched.

Earlier this afternoon the man police are searching was allegedly involved in an assault.

EARLIER: POLICE have shut down three streets in Caloundra West amidst reports an armed man has holed himself up inside a house. 

An emergency situation has been declared and the following streets have been closed: of Crater, Tanner Gipps Streets and Torrens Court.
