The company announced to members this morning the warehouse would not open until the new year.

It comes just a month before the original opening date of November 29 and weeks after the company promised shoppers they'd be able to stock their supersized trollies by Christmas.

In an email to members, Costco Australia managing director Patrick Noone said a delay in roadworks had pushed back the opening date.

"Although the warehouse itself is progressing well, and despite the best efforts of our contractors, we cannot open until the roadwork upgrades and related services are completed," he said.

Members received an email this morning:

Dear valued member,

Thank you for signing up as a member. We had planned to open our new Ipswich warehouse this year in late November in time for Christmas.

Although the warehouse itself is progressing well, and despite the best efforts of our contractors, we cannot open until the roadwork upgrades and related services are completed. For this reason, we will be delaying the opening until the new year, with a date to be announced.

As a valued member we regret the delay and apologise for any inconvenience. We would like to assure you that your membership will be valid for 12 months from the date we open early  next year. In the meantime, you are welcome to use your membership at any Costco location around the world, in Australia and also in Northlakes, Brisbane.

Once again, we apologise for this inconvenience and will update you as soon as the opening date is agreed.

Sincerely

Patrick Noone
Managing Director
